Following a slew of complaints, Tamil Nadu Police, under pressure, arrested Usmani and Rajik Mohammed for making derogatory remarks against judges, PM Modi, Central Home Minister Amit Shah and UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

TN police, on Saturday (March 19), arrested Kovai R Rahamathulla from Tirunelveli and S. Jamal Mohammad Usmani from Thanjavur, office bearers of Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ), for threatening to kill Karnataka High Court Judges who had given a verdict in the hijab case on March 15.

Video of one such meeting held in Madurai on March 17 went viral, in which Rahamathullah said judges should be ashamed of themselves for their ‘biased’ judgment. He insinuated the Judiciary had sold itself to the BJP and that the court’s decision was invalid and illegal. Rahmatullah alleged that the Karnataka High Court pronounced the verdict on the behest of Amit Shah. He also casts aspersions on judges and threatened them by saying, “We are not afraid of Modi, yogi and Amit Shah. We are only afraid of Allah. Don’t make us lose patience. If we lose patience, then you won’t exist.” He even stated that people know where the Chief Justice of Karnataka goes to walk in the morning and reminded them what happened to the Jharkhand judge.

The TNTJ had organised a protest at Athirampattinam on February 28, and state leader of the TNTJ Jamal Mohammed Usmani, led by Athiraj Razik, made slanderous statements against the Karnataka High Court judges besides issuing threats to Prime Minister Modi. The video of the hate speech of Usmani against the judges and the prime minister went viral, shocking the people and drawing condemnations from various sections. He said, “Judges are not human, they are dogs and eating not food but f….es. They read what was written by Modi, Amit Shah. Are they judges or members of saffron outfit? We will slap them with slippers. We are not afraid of anyone except Allah.” He was casting aspersion on the intent of the High Court. Police arrested Rahmatullah, Asan Batsha and Habibullah in this connection.

Following a slew of complaints, police, under pressure, arrested Usmani and Rajik Mohammed for making derogatory remarks against judges, PM, Central Home Minister and UP CM. Bengaluru Vidhana Soudha police started probing into threats issued to HC judges, including Chief Justice. Based on a complaint by advocate Sudha Katwa, police have registered an FIR against unknown miscreants under different sections.

Karnataka HC register general TG Shivashankare Gowd said a video clip shared by an advocate is being transcribed/ translated for taking further action.

On March 18, Muslims protested in more than 15 places in Chennai city against the verdict. Fundamentalists, with the official patron, tried to mobilise crowd and protests like what they did during anti CAA agitation. TNTJ, PFI and other terror outfits should be banned, as the DMK government will not take harsh action. They will merely arrest and give them royal treatment in jails.
