Tiruppuvanam—Keezhadi .Excavation of additional pits has begun to trace the continuation of the brick construction discovered on July 2.
15 pits are being excavated for the 8th phase of excavation work at Keezhadi, Akaram and Kontakhai. A neat wall built of undamaged bricks was discovered on July 2 in a newly excavated pit of seven pits excavated in keezhadi. As there is a possibility of continuation of this wall towards the east, the digging of additional pits started yesterday under the leadership of Archeology Department Associate Director (keezadi Excavation) Ramesh.
While there is a demand to excavate an area of 1000 acres in Keezhadi and surrounding areas, it is possible that there were many brick constructions in the area around Keezhadi as brick constructions are being exposed here and there. Less than 400 items including oblong amulets, moss beads, pots, potsherds, etc. have been found in Keezhadi. Archaeologists said that after the completion of the map preparation work at Kontakhai, the work of opening the tombs of the elderly will be done in collaboration with the Madurai Kamaraj University Genetics Division.
