A young girl from Padukhar caste from the Nilgiris has been selected as a lieutenant in the army.
Manokaran hails from Upadalai village near Coonoor in Nilgiris district. He retired as an officer from Rashtriya Military Academy, Bangalore. His daughter is Pavitra (age 23). From a young age, she saw her father’s activities and wanted to join the army.
Pavitra completed his Bachelors in Commerce from a private college. Then he wrote the STAFF Selection exam and passed. Subsequently, she underwent training for 9 months at the Army Officers Training Center in Parangimalai, Chennai. After completing the training, Pavitra has been selected as a lieutenant. It is noteworthy that she was selected as a lieutenant for the first time among the Padukhar people in the Nilgiris district. Pavitra did her primary education in Mumbai and from 6th standard at Rashtriya Military School, Bangalore. She has obtained A grade in National Cadet Corps (NCC).
Pavitra was awarded a sword and silver medal for her excellent training at the swearing-in ceremony held in Chennai last October 29. In this situation, she is going to take charge as a lieutenant in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, Pavitra visited her hometown. The people of the town gave her an enthusiastic welcome. Also welcome was given on behalf of Hockey organization. Regarding this, Pavitra said that no matter how much the country has progressed, there are still many restrictions on women in the society. No matter the restrictions and obstacles, we have to listen and act on what our mind tells us. She said that our goals should be to make our parents proud.
