Subramania Siva was born on 4 October 1884 at Wattalagund, Dindigul District. He fought for freedom by combining politics and spirituality. A great orator and a great journalist who made the people of Tamil Nadu thirst for freedom.
In 1913, he edited the magazine ‘Gnanabanu’. He was closely associated with V.U.Chidambaranar and Mahakavi Bharatiyar. He was hailed as ‘Veeramurasu’. In 1916 he started a weekly magazine called ‘Prabanja Mithran’ and ran it for some time. In this he used to write articles under the pseudonym ‘Naradhar’. He devoted himself fully to writing. He has written more than twenty books.
A harsh prison sentence by an English Christian tyrant left him with leprosy. Even after his release from prison, he was devoted to the work of Mother India. He selected the site for the Bharatmata temple at Paparapatti in Dharmapuri. But his dream could not be fulfilled.
In 1924, his mother died while living in Kashi. The British government banned him from traveling by train citing leprosy. He was unable to attend his mother’s funeral. He did national liberation as the greatest penance.
