‘Physicians’ carelessness; Rs. 10 lakh relief for student Priya’s family’ – Minister M. Subramanian

Chennai: Minister M. Subramanian also said that Rs 10 lakh will be given to the family of football player Priya who died due to negligence of doctors.

Minister of Health and People’s Welfare M. Subramanian personally met the family of Priya (17 years old), a football player who died this morning (Nov. 15) after being admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai.

Later, Minister M. Subramanian, who met the media, said, “The blood vessels of Priya, a football player, are damaged due to blood flow. She was brought to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital on the 10th for further treatment. I came to see her the day before yesterday and inquired about the treatment being given to her. Orthopedic specialists, orthopedic specialists and anesthesiologists provided treatment as treatment became necessary in the intensive care unit. Despite continuous treatment, student Priya died this morning.

We immediately set up a team of medical experts to investigate. It was found that the negligence of the doctors who treated at the Periyar Nagar Government Hospital was also the reason. 2 doctors who carelessly treated student Priya have been dismissed. Both doctors have already been transferred. An inquiry will be conducted and departmental action will be ordered. Legal action will be taken against the 2 doctors and a complaint will be lodged with the police.

The Tamil Nadu government will provide a relief of Rs 10 lakh to Priya’s family. A family member will be given a government job. Further departmental and legal action will be taken. The investigation by the medical team will also continue,” said the minister.
