Strict action against those involved in ragging: DGP orders

CHENNAI: A video of the first year medical students of Vellore Christian Medical College (CMC) making them run half-naked and ragging has gone viral on social media recently. On the basis of the press report related to this, the Madras High Court has voluntarily taken up the case and investigated it. In this case, the circular sent by DGP Sailendrababu yesterday to all Metropolitan Police Commissioners and District SPs regarding the issue of ragging:

The police department should take immediate action on complaints filed by parents and guardians who are not satisfied with the action taken by the concerned educational institutions on complaints related to ragging incidents. If the police deliberately delay in registering a case, criminal action will be taken against them.

In order to control the culture of ragging in educational institutions, all District Superintendents of Police and Municipal Police Commissioners should take strict action against the criminals involved in ragging and related complaints. Also, said immediate action should be taken on complaints received from online, police helpline and toll free number.
