Tiruchirappalli – Eco-friendly Ganesha idols made from cow dung by this Gatividhi are in great demand among people. “These Ganesha idols are made from cow dung. To the dried cow dung powder , we add panchakavya or Multani Mitty and natural binding agents. We put the mixture into a mould and make an idol from it. In Hindu culture, cow dung is considered sacred and that is why we chose to make idols from it,” Viswanathan ji the Samyojak, Gou Seva said .

He further said, “These idols can be made in 15 minutes but it takes four to five days to dry them.”

These idols are inexpensive and can be bought by all . Since , the demand is more and artisans are numbering around four to five we are unabe to supply in full . However , more than 1000 idols have been sold so far from these five centres . Plans are there to set up units in all Districts to prepare apart from the idols many other products useful for our daily usage by using Desi Cow’s urine , dung , milk . Now works are on to produce 30000 diya for the ensuing Deepavali and Karthigai . People are really keen on buying these idols. Also , in this context the Gatividhi is already extending practical training programmes all over Bharat to manufacture 100s of items starting from agriculture to our daily uses , cosmetics etc . “

He says that the aim behind making eco-friendly idols is to help preserve nature by serving our Gou Mata (desi cow).
