Kovai kizhar was born on 30 November 1888 to Marudachalam Chettiar – Konammal. Birth name, Ramachandran Chettiar. He became a lawyer and became a Tamil scholar.

He had excellent knowledge of eight languages namely Tamil, Sanskrit, English, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Urdu and Malayalam.

He has contributed thousands of articles to the Tamil world in various fields like history, literature, translation, epigraphy, poetry, prose, folk literature, temple art, religion, anthropology.

Wrote the history of Kongunadu which no one knew and wrote till now. He has written more than eighty books.

When he became the Commissioner of Hindu Charity Department, he visited all the temples in Tamil Nadu and wrote detailed notes about the history, management system and environment of the temple.
